Improved health outcomes throughout the Solomon Islands via Nurse Training
The Solomon Islands Education Project is well recognised by the local community and known to be the only programme in the Solomon Islands to offer educational scholarships to teenage youth.
With a backdrop of chronic poverty, school fees, expensive inter-island travel and increasing levels of child labour, many young people are at risk of never attaining education qualifications adequate to secure meaningful employment.
This project will be based at the Solomon Islands National University and will support national women and men who are passionate about health care as they undertake a 3 year Diploma of Nursing course.
The majority of graduates, upon completion of their course, return to the village context and manage health clinics. Increasing the number of nurse graduates will help improve health in the villages throughout the country.
