Emergency Appeal: Help Provide Life-Saving Food and Water to Refugees in Burundi
Civil armed conflict in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has forced nearly 50,000 people to flee across the border into Cibitoke, Burundi, where they are seeking refuge in overcrowded camps. These individuals are facing unimaginable challenges—without work, land to grow food, or any means to provide for themselves, they are entirely dependent on the generosity of others. The Burundian people, who are also struggling with poverty, are doing their best to support the refugees, but the need is overwhelming.
This emergency project aims to provide immediate relief to those most in need. We plan to distribute food parcels and water containers to help sustain families during this crisis. Each food parcel will consist of:
- 15 kg of maize meal
- 10 kg of beans
- 1 x 20-litre water container, which can be used for collecting water for family use or as a means to generate income by transporting water to other families, businesses, or construction sites.
This project aims to support up to 6,000 people by delivering 1,000 food parcels to refugee households across two villages. Behind each parcel is a household. A family of about six, doing it extremely tough. This is about more than just essentials. It is a powerful reminder that someone sees them and still cares.
The goal is to alleviate immediate hunger and ensure access to clean water, aligning with UN Sustainable Development Goals 2 (Zero Hunger) and Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation).
