Sustaining a Legacy of Freedom and Opportunity for Young Women

For 39 years, the Kodai Grihini Program has stood as a beacon of hope in the remote hill villages of Kodaikanal, India. This vital initiative is dedicated to transforming the lives of poor and marginalised young women who have been unaware of, or unable to access, their basic human and citizenship rights.

Due to systemic barriers, many of these young women have been unable to access sufficient schooling. The Grihini program intervenes to break this cycle, providing a safe, nurturing environment where they can reclaim their education, build their self-worth, and discover their true potential.

With your support, we can keep this crucial program running, ensuring these young women are no longer left behind and ensure that they can share their new knowledge and skills to increase the wellbeing in their own villages.

Impact Areas

  • Tailored Core Education: Every student receives a flexible, personalised curriculum focused on foundational literacy, numeracy, nutrition, and personal development to match their specific needs.
  • Social & Rights Awareness: We empower young women with a deep understanding of their rights and responsibilities as Indian citizens, expanding their horizons through cultural field trips across Tamil Nadu.
  • Vocational Skills & Internships: We bridge the gap between learning and financial independence by providing practical income-generating skills and local internship placements in offices, mills, and balwadies (village childcare centres).
  • Continued Education & Post-Program Alumni Support: Beyond the initial program, we provide ongoing education awards and community networks to ensure our graduates continue to build on their new capabilities, leading village-based self-help projects.

Your gift today equips young women with the education, skills, and independence to change their futures—and their communities—forever.
