Dany is 40 years old and is raising these two children in her Cambodian border town because their parents are working in Thailand. She is able to send the kids to school because she is tending a home garden with a good variety of vegetables planted. She collects the vegetables every day to sell in the local market. She uses the income from selling vegetables to pay school fees and buy supplies for the kids.
After attending training in the WRA Mushroom Production program for several months, Dany became interested in becoming a mushroom farmer so that she could earn additional income to support the household. After being successful on a small scale, Dany now wants to order approximately 1000 packages in order to create a greater yield every day because mushrooms are very easy to sell, she said. She also said mushrooms are easy to grow, even inside the house, and can sell for a significantly higher price than other vegetables.
